2/19/18 Winter Tracking Camp at the Library 9:30 AM Off-Site Register
  Meet Metroparks Toledo and Toledo Lucas County Public Library staff at Toledo's Main Library for a tracking and snowshoe adventure. Come learn about local animals and investigate the mysteries of following their footprints. We will also make tracks of our own wearing snowshoes. Snowshoeing is weather dependent but requires no special footwear. Dress in layers, we plan to spend time outside. Snack provided. Register online at toledolibrary.org/metroparks.

  Take a brisk walk on park trails to increase your heart rate and get the blood flowing. This is a 50 min walk and covers over 2 miles at a quick walking pace. There will be no walk on federal holidays.  
2/19/18 Tree Climbing: (Ages 8+) 1:00 PM Toledo Botanical Garden Register
  Join Metroparks naturalists at this new "tree-mendous" tree climbing opportunity! Participants will be using harnesses and climbing ropes to get to the tree-tops.

All equipment provided. It will be cold!
Please dress for the weather and wear closed-toed shoes. Warm beverages and a toasty fire will be provided.

2/20/18 Calling All Scouts: Boy Scouts - Mammal Study 6:00 PM Oak Openings Preserve Registration Closed
  Get up close and personal with members of your "extended" family." We will first spend some time learning what it takes to be a successful mammal. Then we will venture out into the field and put our knowledge to the test. A small stewardship project will be done to help out the Metoparks mammals.  
2/20/18 NorthWest Ohio River Runners Meeting: A Kayak Group Open to the Public 6:30 PM Wildwood Preserve No Registration Required
  Join the NorthWest Ohio River Runners (NWORR) kayak and canoe enthusiasts for their off-season winter meetings.

Their mission is, "to inform, teach, and share in the fun and safety of the sport, for individuals and families in northwest Ohio and across the country."

At the February meeting, Pat Groves and Robin Rex of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary will present a free Paddle Sport Safety Class.

The first class, in February, will cover basic terminology and safety equipment. The second class, in March, will go over how to handle your craft in various scenarios. There will be no in-water training.

Doors open at 6pm and classes will be from 6:30pm to about 9pm. A suggested workbook can be purchased at the door for $15 and can be shared by family members.

 
2/21/18 Story Time in the Manor House: Let's Go Camping (Ages 3 to 5) 10:30 AM Wildwood Preserve Register
  We'll meet in the Manor House Library for some stories, games and a craft before taking a short hike outside, please dress for the weather. Join us monthly for a different topic. Register participating children only.

  Learn a little about horticulture from a horticulturist and then put the new-found knowledge to work in the Toledo Botanical Garden. Tools and insights are provided! Free, Reservations.  
2/22/18 Wake Up With the Birds 8:00 AM Wildwood Preserve Register
  Make Thursday morning your bird watching time! Bring your favorite morning beverage and join us in Wildwood's Window on Wildlife for this informal viewing and interpretation of our feathered friends. At 8:30, we may venture out to take a quick look in nearby trees and meadows (optional). No birding experience necessary.

  Park adventures for our youngest visitors. Preschoolers, toddler and their guardians enjoy story time, a nature walk and a craft to take home. There is a different theme each session. Please dress for the weather.  
2/22/18 Art after Dark: Weaving a Yarn 5:00 PM Wildwood Preserve Register
  It' time to get creative in the park after dark by making art. This week we will learn the basics of weaving on a frame loom. You will start with preparing the warp and applying the different weft styles to produce a woven sampler. No experience necessary, just a willingness to try. All supplies included. Register all applicants.  
2/22/18 Evening Hike Group 6:00 PM Wildwood Preserve No Registration Required
  Do early winter sunset times have you lamenting the loss of your after work walk in the park? Enjoy an invigorating evening hike through your parks with a naturalist at a time when the parks are usually closed. Sturdy hiking shoes are recommended and dress for the weather.

  The answers to histories great mysteries lay buried under our feet. Join TAARS for monthly meetings to discuss topics related to the field of archeology.

  Exhibits from the nation's premier nature photographers hang along side images by local talent in this gallery. The National center for Nature Photography at Secor Metropark is the only center of its kind in the country. Regular Gallery hours are Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  Join a park naturalist as we explore Farnsworth Metropark. Look for signs of wildlife, explore how birds and animals survive the winter and learn how to identify a tree with no leaves! Please wear comfortable walking shoes and dress according to weather.

  Walk in the park after dark on a hike that focuses on nature at night and seasonal wildlife. We will discover the night wonders at a time when visitors are not normally allowed in the park. Dress for the weather and let's get outside!  
2/24/18 Behind The Scenes Of Stranleigh 9:00 AM Wildwood Preserve Register
  Ever wonder what is behind all those closed doors? Or, where did the maids work and sleep? Take this unique opportunity to see all four floors of the Wildwood Manor House and discover more about what life was like when the historic home was called Stranleigh. Small groups will tour typically closed spaces from the boiler room to the attic. Space is limited.

  Shake off those winter blues and join Metroparks archery instructors for some early season target shooting ..and S'mores! A toasty fire awaits participants upon arrival. Refine your archery skills, stop for a quick warm up and some gooey deliciousness at your leisure. Then shoot some more! Families with kids 8 and up.

2/25/18 Toledo Naturalist Association Fieldtrip: Search for Woodpeckers 9:00 AM Oak Openings Preserve No Registration Required
  Woodpeckers are fascinating creatures. We are fortunate to have seven different species of woodpecker right here in Northwest Ohio. A loop around the Silver Trail at Oak Openings should offer some solid opportunities. Though it may be difficult, we’ll try for the clean sweep of all seven regularly occurring woodpeckers. Meet leader Brandon Brywczynski at the Buehner Center’s window on wildlife to join in the fun.

  Enjoy a free guided tour of this over 30,000 square foot, Depression-era home and learn about the region's rich history or walk through the first floor in your own time. After touring the Manor House, save time to walk through the Ellen Biddle Shipman Gardens or walk the trails through the spectacular grounds of Wildwood Preserve.  
2/25/18 Adult Learning Series: Oaks and their Pests 2:00 PM Oak Openings Preserve Register
  Enrich your knowledge of the natural and cultural history of our region through this weekly lecture series featuring an indoor presentation followed by
an optional, short naturalist led hike. Amy Stone, Agriculture and Natural Resources Educator with the Ohio State Extension, Lucas County, will speak on Oaks and their pests. The different species of Oak trees found in the Metroparks will be discussed along with some of the pests that affect them.
 
2/25/18 Calling All Junior Girl Scouts: Digital Photography (Juniors) 2:00 PM Secor Register
  Click, Click! Do you know how to get the most out of your digital device and what it takes to capture a winning photo? Girl Scouts will use Metroparks' digital cameras, explore the ins and outs of the camera and fulfill the requirements for the digital camera badge. Bring your own SD memory card to take photos home.
